I'll just single out one from that lot that I don't have any time for Carty and that is old duck in a microwave himself - Bill Withers. As you say, played to death. Switch on Smooth Radio ( I dare you) and you have a 1 in 100 chance of it being played. About the same as the odds of you landing one of those Bishops Stortford birds. Gene.

Yellow Dog's one hit was brilliant! mm, January 78, my 18th birthday, I was in the upper sixth at secondary school, my last few months before A levels and had not long passed my driving test. Fantastic tune from Yellow Dog! As with several one hit wonders from this time it's a bit hard to find on CD. But I eventually found it on a three disc punk/new wave compilation from Virgin called Never Trust a Hippy Vi

I agree with you Sam on those two tracks. Get it right next time is an upbeat message from the ultra laid back Gerry Rafferty. It's a great sounding track. I'm not really a fan of ballards but Sad Café''s Everyday Hurts is a exception. Fantastic track produced by 10ccs Eric Stewart I believe. I remember Gerry Raffertys "Get it right next time" very well. Cool track and I seem to remember Terry Wogan liked playing it a fair bit on his breakfast show on Radio 2 weekday mornings and I used to hear it before going to school. My trendy next day neighbour mate bought the single too.

Here's April
Bee Gees - Night Fever* Showaddywaddy - I wonder why - never liked them, they did one which was just about passable, and will be along in the summer Andrew Gold - Never let her slip away* Dan Hill - Sometimes when we touch - OK ish I suppose Chic - Everybody dance* Michael Zager Band - Lets all chant* Boney M - Rivers of Babylon/Brown Girl in the ring - sort of Ok ish, prefer Rivers of Babylon Boomtown Rats - Shes so modern* Dee D Jackson - Automatic Lover - not great but she was quite nice if I remember Squeeze - Take me I'm Yours* Raydio - Jack and Jill*
Starting to hot up a bit methinks!!

Apologies from me also Cartman as I like Genesis, and in particular Follow You, Follow Me. Another one I like, along with a lot of their stuff actually was Chic & Everybody Dance. Nile Rodgers et al were and still are (with the exception of the late Bernie Edwards) a class act.
Raydio? Isn't that Ray Parker Junior prior to his Ghostbusters success? A decent track that I do have on a compilation of this type of stuff in the Quattro.
Billy Joel with JTWYA has, I agree, been played to death, but I still prefer it to the Baz White version.
Gene.
