Let's get April out of the way tonight
Bucks Fizz My camera never lies* Paul McCartney and Stevie wonder Ebony and Ivory. To me Macca was either very good or very bad. This fell into the latter category Dollar Give me back my heart* largely for the video, Thereze looking very hot in a WREN navy uniform!!😍 Roxy Music More than this* Imagination Just an illusion* Japan Ghosts. Their appeal completely eluded me Pig Bag Papas got a brand new pig bag* used to get in your head! Bardo One Step further* unsuccessful Euro entry, similar reason for liking it to the Dollar track, the girl in the duo was fit!! Elton John Blue eyes. Not massively keen on Eltons later stuff really Haircut 100 Fantastic Day* Bananarama and Fun boy three Really saying something* another from this strangely effective combo Monsoon Ever so lonely* unusual sitar type sound and one hit wonder Simple Minds Promised you a miracle* Pluto Your honour* one previous hit in 76, then, afaik, disappeared again
Slight upturn, but still a few duds, and guilty pleasures!!

February 82. Tight Fit The lion sleeps tonight* XTC Senses working overtime* love this Lindsey Buckingham Trouble* the Fleetwood Mac man on his own Wasn't a big fan of this one from Tight Fit, but years later it was quite funny to discover the bloke who fronted the trio was a male model miming to a session singer who was considerably older than him and looked like George Formby. Lindsey Buckingham - fantastic song which deserved a higher position in the charts. XTC - the first song that comes to mind when I think of 1982. Another band that can't do wrong in my opinion. Shame the two main guys fell out. Japan - Ghosts (from April) - this one grew on me, but I wasn't keen on anything else of theirs. Particularly their awful cover of I Second That Emotion.

Dexys midnight runners Come on Eileen* love the video, filmed in a Sweeney like location Very much a Sweeney-like location being just down the road from Hammersmith in Walworth. Take a look at this thread for the locations: >>> Dexy's "Come On Eileen" video - Then and Now <<<Sam.

Brat Chalk dust* a bit funny I suppose I'd almost forgotten this one featuring Roger Kitter, a former 70s TV impressionist from Who Do You Do about John McEnroe and his tennis court tantrums. Around the same time I remember someone bringing out a single which defended McEnroe but in a very tongue-in-cheek way. It featured a British toff with a posh accent rapping OTT lyrics and had a chorus of "Jolly good forehand, Jolly good backhand...Mc--en--roe". It was very similar to Wikka Rap from The Evasions, but wasn't them. The only references I can find on the internet are two other anoraks asking "anyone remember it?" Summer 82 seemed to see a lull in decent stuff with novelty acts and some established artists putting out second rate offerings. David Essex's Nightclubbing being a case in point, getting a little dig in against the New Romantics/Boy George with the line Teenage hero, fashion dummy weirdo. Not one of his best. Kevin Rowland/Dexys - I would like to have been a fly on the wall when the band turned up for rehearsals in their usual donkey jackets to find they had dungarees in the wardrobes! "Oh and we've recruited a violinist. Trust me!"

Agree that summer 82 was a bit of a lull, generally I feel you can sense that decline had set in, little gems here and there but as Night said novelty songs and other sub prime stuff
More of 82 follows after tea!😀
