Great write up and photos Arthur - Thanks Another link with Get Carter is the appearance of Godfrey Quigley who played Eddie in Get Carter and Dr Carolan in The Reckoning. You can see Godfrey at the bedside in the 3rd picture above. John Hussey was also in both films. Gene.

Thanks for posting this thread Arthur, I don't think I've ever seen The Reckoning but it looks like one to add to the view list. I'll have to keep an eye out for the DVD. Sam.

Looks like a good film Arthur, thanks for posting. Ordered my copy and am looking forward to watching it. This forum is a great knowledge base and I have seen some cracking films I'd not heard of before (The Small World Of Sammy Lee springs to mind) because of posts like these

Mike Hodges must have seen this film. The sequences in Liverpool are very similar, in so much as the decaying city is a fabulous back drop for the unfolding story. Also, quite possibly, the best use of the word 'Twat' in film history :D

It's interesting to see Rachel Roberts in one of Arthur's smudges. A terrific actress, and in so many interesting films of that era. Possibly a little forgotten these days. Sadly, a troubled lady with her own personal demons, she committed suicide in 1980.

Also, quite possibly, the best use of the word 'Twat' in film history :D The art direction is so similar, even down to little things like the sampler on the wall 'Kept By The Power Of God'. I don't think Get Carter had the reputation it has until it was 'rediscovered' in, I think, the 90's. I might be mistaken but I think when it was shown on Alex Cox's 'Moviedrome' it was dusted down & got more of a cult following ( like 'The Wicker Man' ), then I seem to remember it becoming fashionable & being featured in 'Loaded' magazine or similar lad's mags. The soundtrack was released about this time & I remember the theme being paired with fashion shoots. Prior to that I think it was a film that would crop up on tv now & then & would go unnoticed ( much like The Wicker Man which I remember seeing on ITV in the mid 80s in its cut version ).

I might take a punt on the DVD for this film, kind of reminds you of a Get Carter meets Boys from the Blackstuff vibe here. Some of those location shots seem interesting too... I think it's around the Everton Valley area if so very much changed these days. Thanks for the heads up on it Art.

Some locations here- www.reelstreets.com/index.php/component/films/?task=view&id=831&film_ref=reckoningDidn't realise about the site until now that if you hover over the pictures you see the 'now' shots It's not been that long since I watched it but I don't remember there being a sense of Merseyside, no scouse accents, etc., mind you there aren't many geordie accents in GC & if you don't know Newcastle it could be any Northern English town.
