I had Heart 80's on the radio today at work and they played The Pogues' Fairytale Of New York 3 times in 8 hours.
Tiresome, lazy programming.

Can't abide that Pogues cack! I think the best Christmas songs are those which already sounded strangely nostalgic when they were actually released the first time around, Slade's 'Merry Christmas' from 1973, Macca's 'A Wonderful Christmas Time' from 1979 and Jonah Loui's 'Stop The Cavalry' from 1980 spring to mind here. Oddly though, I always associate The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' with Christmas as it was number one in December '81 when there was actually a ton of snow on the ground round our way, December '81 into January '82 was bitterly cold round here. Likewise The Stranglers 'Golden Brown' for personal nostalgic reasons, which came out about the same time. Villain

Agree there Villain, on all except Maccas. That has got to be THE worst Christmas song ever, in fact it gets into my all time worst songs of all time top 10!
I do like the Human League song mentioned, and yes the winter of 81/2 was cold.

I don't mind McCartney's song at all. The Pogues track has been played to death now and grates every time I hear it. I also wince each time I hear Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas especially the "listen to me listen to me" Boy George bits. As far as the worst Crimbo track goes, for me it is a 50/50 between Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas and Elton John's Step Into Christmas.

I'm not a fan of Chrimbo I'm afraid. Can't stand it on Christmas day when my brother puts Top Of The Pops on, he does it every year regardless of the crap that was released that year, I have to leave the room whilst it's on. Ditto the Queen's Speech. Worst of all is when relatives phone up to wish you Happy Christmas & the phone gets passed around the room to each family member, I always make a point of going to the toilet when this happens but still my dad or someone comes up stairs & passes me the phone

Ooh, Arthur, you Bah Humbug man!
PS, I’m always glad when it’s all over really, the lead up to it is just a load of hassle and expense.

I like Christmas. It's going back to work in the New Year I loathe.

I like Christmas, but why is it that lately it seems to come around quicker than the last one? I'm not keen on New Years Eve these days. During the nineties we used to go to a party at a near neighbours house. We had some great times then. Unfortunately they have both passed on now and we live a different quiter area, and are usually in bed when the clock strikes twelve. I like New Years day though. We always have a roast, and sometimes some visitors which is nice.
Anyway regarding the worst Christmas songs? There are some bad ones out there which I can't think of at the moment. I like the Wham one a lot. ( Can't remember the title.)
Charles.

I like Christmas, but sadly this year I've drawn / been given the short straw as I'll be working on the 24th, 25th and 26th! Villain
